HTC One M8 Eye is China-exclusive
The Double Exposure event HTC held a few days ago in New York unveiled the HTC Desire Eye and Re camera, the company’s photography-focused new gadgets, but failed to mention anything about the HTC One M8 Eye, which had been rumored around as being the selfie-version with a different camera of the original HTC One M8 Eye. We had thought that the leaks and rumors about the HTC One M8 Eye were just speculations and after the Double Exposure event we had totally dismissed the existence of such an HTC One M8 variant, but it seems we were mistaken.
The HTC One M8 has been silently launched in China, just a day after the unveiling event of the HTC Desire Eye and Re camera, but it seems like the new HTC One M8 variant will be a handset exclusively sold in China. HTC changed the camera setup on the HTC One M8 and re-branded it as the HTC One M8 Eye variant, leaving all the specs and design elements the same as on the original handset launched earlier this year.
The HTC One M8 Eye comes as an admittance from HTC that they had botched the ultrapixel camera setup on the One M8, in some people’s eyes. Although the HTC One M8 takes great shots and video, compared to other devices, it seems that many were dissatisfied with the setup and HTC wanted to cater to those people, apparently most of them being located in China. HTC is having trouble getting back in the saddle, with plummeting sales and share values, so the One M8 Eye, Desire Eye and Re camera comes an attempt to draw more crowds towards the high-quality HTC devices.
The HTC One M8 Eye is the same as the One M8 in specs, with the only difference being a 13 MP camera on the rear and the Eye Experience software pre-loaded on the device, making the HTC One M8 Eye the first device to roll out with the new Eye Experience software out of the box. The Eye Experience update is rolling out for the HTC One M8, as well as the rest of HTC-made smartphones, and it brings new features to the camera, such as a split screen view of both the front and rear cameras, excellent face focus, Crop-Me-In feature which allows you to insert your portrait from the front facing camera into the still taken by the rear camera, Face Fusion and Live Makeup.
