iPhone 4s and iPad 2 performance improved with iOS 8.1.1

Apple’s two older devices, the iPhone 4s and iPad 2 are among those who have seen a considerable drop in performance and battery life ever since users installed the iOS 8 update. While the iOS 8.0.1 and 8.0.2 only managed to make things worse, the subsequent iOS 8.1.1 iPhone 4s and iPad 2 updates should fix most of the issues. Users of the iPhone 4s have been complaining of battery life and hotspot issues among others. Users of the iPhone 4s and iPad 2 have reported that the first iOS 8 update slowed their devices down, and blamed it on the fact that the operating system was designed with newer, more capable devices in mind.

iOS 8.1.1 beta has been released to developers a few days ago and the update should fix some minor bugs and errors in the platform. Most developers are saying that the update will also impact performance on the iPhone 4s and iPad 2, which would be great news for owners who would rather not upgrade to the newer iterations of Apple devices such as the iPhone 6 or iPad Air 2. While we don’t have a release date for the iOS 8.1.1 update, users of the iPhone 4s and iPad 2 shouldn’t panic, because there are some fixes out there that should temporarily improve performance on their devices. One of these fixes is disabling animations and effects, which tend to drain CPU and battery, as well. You can reduce the number of animation by going to the Accessibility option in settings and then on to the Reduce Motion tab.

If you are set on improving the performance on the iPhone 4s and iPad 2, you can also disable transparency across iOS8. This will only impact the appearance of the OS and will make transitions a bit wonkier than what you’ve been used to, but their absence is not that bad. Nonetheless, even with these specific features disabled, you will still experience a slow performance on both the aforementioned Apple devices, so we are eager to see the company release the new update. We hope that rumors are true and the iOS 8.1.1 update will fix the performance issues on the iPhone 4s and iPad 2.
