Quantum Break at Gamescom 2015

For the first time since Quantum Break was unveiled at E3 with a trailer many years ago, some Quantum Break gameplay was unveiled at Microsoft’s briefing at Gamescom 2015. For starters, it is a cover based third person shooter not unlike Gears of War. Unlike Gears of War though, cover isn’t quite as important, though that can probably be attributed to the gameplay being unveiled in a trailer.

Your enemies sure do like having a giant, very visible M on their stuff.

The game’s premise is that your character is trying to find the killer of your brother, Paul, to try and stop the end of time itself. A large amount of the story revolves around the construction of the first time machine ever and the origin of time travel, but something went horribly wrong. As a result, time itself is being torn apart, and your character can manipulate this to some degree. A corporation called Monaco, whose soldiers and equipment are branded with a giant orange and stylized M, is coming after your character.

Time in its more lethal form.

To counter this, your character has the expected abilities like freezing your enemies and bullets in time, accelerating your own movement, and things of that nature, but you can also cause a ripple in time in a manner not unlike a grenade. Of course, in typical game fashion, Monaco will also have special enemies that are immune to the effects of the tearing apart of time. So while most enemies will be frozen in time, these hazmat suit wearing soldiers can still fire upon you.

They may be immune to time stopping, but they’re not immune to bullets

It is promised that there are going to be two sides to this story though, so while Paul might seem like a good guy who was simply caught in the middle of a corporation and science, things may not be as they appear. Quantum Break is expected to be released in April, 2016.
