Call of Duty: Ghosts Invasion DLC Hits PC, PSN July 3

Call of Duty: Ghosts Invasion DLC will hit PC and PSN on July 3, Activision announced today. The Invasion DLC has been available on Xbox 360 and Xbox One since June 3. It added three brand new maps (Departed, Pharaoh, Mutiny) and one remade fan favorite from Modern Warfare 2 (Favela). The DLC also includes Episode 3: Awakening, the next installment in extinction’s four-part episodic narrative.

Departed is set in a rural Mexican town during the Day of the Dead celebration. It is a medium-sized map featuring a classic three-lane design. Completing the map’s unique field order will unlock a new killstreak, cleverly named death mariachi, which brings about an undead mariachi band armed with dual wielding pistols to run train on the opposing team. Pharaoh takes place in an abandoned ancient Egyptian palace set among the pyramids. This map is also medium sized, but has more of a complexity to it than Departed. It also includes a collapsing monument and urns filled with flesh-eating scarabs.

Mutiny takes place on a remote Caribbean island in an eerie pirate hideout, complete with trading posts and prison cells. It’s a much smaller map than most might like, but it provides for some high-octane, short-order fun. In Episode 3: Awakening, players will descend into the depths of an alien underworld, armed with new hi-tech weapons and equipment. The goal is to penetrate a series of defensive barriers to reach the Ark and retrieve the key to unlocking the secrets of the Ancestors’ psychic abilities.

This DLC continues on the very predictable Call of Duty DLC formula: four multiplayer maps, one co-op map, and an extra weapon or game mode. Generally, the updates aren’t completely worthless, but they aren’t a necessity, either. If more Call of Duty: Ghosts content is what you’re looking for, then Invasion is a safe enough bet. The DLC will be available on PC or PSN for $14.99.
