Samsung finally announced Galaxy Note Edge

Albeit being one of the most anticipated exhibitors at IFA Berlin this week, Samsung thought that the Galaxy Note 4 unveiling just won’t do on its own and announced the Galaxy Note Edge as its forthcoming device at the IFA Unpacked event.

The Galaxy Note Edge has been in the works for more than a year now, but nothing had been announced about the handset officially by the company. Times have changed though, and the Galaxy Note Edge has now become a reality. What’s fascinating about the Note Edge is that it looks awesome. But that’s not all there is to the gadget, naturally. The Note Edge uses Samsung’s flexible OLED display to impress the crowds, with a wrap-around display design that allows for improved viewing angles.

The Note Edge will run Android 4.4 KitKat, like most other Samsung devices, with added Health S 3.5, multi-window and the ultra power-saving mode that many have praised. The flexible OLED technology used in the Galaxy Note Edge is called Youm, and it uses plastic instead of glass as a substrate for the display’s transistors.

Note Edge’s screen will provide quick access to alerts, device functionality and frequently used apps, even with the cover closed. What’s neat about the curved display is that you can have access to notifications on the edges of the screen without them disturbing a playing video or slideshow or any other activity you are doing on the main screen. The device will be powered by a 2.7 GHz quad-core CPU, with 3 GB RAM and either 32 or 64 GB internal storage.

The Galaxy Note Edge will also feature a 16 MP rear camera with smart optical image stabilization and a 3.7 MP front camera. Connectivity-wise, the Note Edge will support LTE Cat 6 for 300 Mbps download speeds, Bluetooth 4.1, infrared, near-field communications and cutting edge WiFi.

The edge screen user experience is a new, more comprehensive type of user interaction, offering immersive apps like camera video and S Note, alongside a ticker board, “express me”, quick tools and a night clock. The selling point of the Note Edge is its screen, though, which is a 5.6 inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display with a 2560*1440 resolution. It also offers 160 extra pixels on its curved edge.

The Galaxy Note Edge’s launch date will be sometime later this year, but we haven’t been as lucky as to get some information about what price it will go for. The technology and quality of the screen that have been implemented in the Edge will surely call for an appropriate price-tag, probably over $750, which is quite the hefty price tag.

My life-long dream has been to test out every gadget on the market! Considering the fact that I've rapidly destroyed almost every gadget I've had so far, I'm not inclined to owning something, so my ideal outcome would be to have a different gadget each month. I'm really into smartphones, wearables and tablets and I love Playstation and Xbox, I'm sure I'll beat you at your own game (after a month of training... or two)
