Samsung Galaxy Note 4 launches earlier in an attempt to catch up with the iPhone 6

Combined, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sold more than 10 millions units in their first weekend alone, thus setting a new record for Apple. The company’s long time rival, Samsung is not particularly happy about this and is apparently taking the necessary steps to ensure that it still remains competitive on the market. One of these steps involves launching the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 a bit earlier in its home country of South Korea. The device was initially supposed to arrive in early October, but now all three majors carriers – SK Telecom, KT and Uplus – will be able to sell it starting with September 26th. Interestingly enough, Samsung was straightforward about this and admitted that the strong sales of the iPhone 6 have forced the company to launch the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 earlier than anticipated.

“The positive reaction from consumers to those two Apple devices prompted us to launch the Note 4 earlier than previously scheduled. Samsung will be aggressive in promoting the Note 4 as it’s true that we are being challenged and pressured amid a difficult situation,” said a Samsung representative. The tech giant apparently has very big plans for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 according to another representative. “Samsung aims to ship 15 million Note 4s in the first 30 days after the product launches, which is very ambitious given the challenging situation,” he said.

By comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 managed to sell 10 million units in about two months so Samsung clearly thinks that it can do a lot better this year. In order to make sure that it succeeds, the company is offering the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 for only 957.000 KRW, which is the equivalent of about $920. Certainly still pretty expensive all things considered, but this will in fact be the cheapest Note phablet to date. For now it seems that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will only release early in South Korea so we can still expect that it will make its way to the US and Europe in October.
