Dragon Age Inquisition not available in India due to concerns over the game’s sex scenes

Publisher Electronic Arts announced that Dragon Age Inquisition will not be making its way to India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. EA also says that anyone living in those countries who have already pre-ordered the game will be fully refunded. This applies to all versions of the game, namely PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. EA already stopped releasing PC physical copies of their games in India earlier this year but this is the first time that console discs are also being made unavailable. In a statement on Origin, EA says that “In order to avoid a breach of local content laws, EA has withdrawn Dragon Age: Inquisition from sale in India and the game is no longer available for pre-order. Customers who pre-ordered the game will be contacted directly and will be fully refunded.”

While the publisher declined to name any specific reasons, distributor Milestone Interactive says that this decision was made due to concerns regarding the game’s homosexual sex scenes. Instead of risking a court case because Dragon Age Inquisition might have offended some people, EA simply decided to withdraw the game from the market entirely. Interestingly enough, this decision only applies to Dragon Age Inquisition and not the other two titles in the series, or any of the Mass Effect games. All of those titles offer the option of pursuing a romantic relationship with gay or bisexual characters but it seems like they will still be available on the market regardless. This suggests that recent changes to Indian laws regarding homosexuality might have triggered this response from Electronic Arts.

Dragon Age Inquisition features many more romance options than any of the other titles in the series. Players will have the option to pursue romantic relationships with a wide variety of characters, including straight, gay, or bisexual ones. For the first time in the series, Bioware has added the first “fully” gay character in the form of Dorian, who will only be available to romance for a male Inquisitor. You will be able to test all these options as well as all the other great content offered by Dragon Age Inquisition starting tomorrow when the game launches on all platforms.
