Crash gets remastered in Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

So…PSX was quite a show, huh? The amount of shocking announcements was impressive and it was definitely a memorable conference. One of the games Sony had announced that people knew the least about was the Crash Bandicoot Remaster, revealed back in E3 of this year but with very few details aside from who was going to develop it and the year that it was going to release. Today, more details have been shared by Sony thanks to a short trailer that showed gameplay of the remaster of Crash Bandicoot 1, including the official name, which is Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy.

Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy features the original trilogy of Crash games developed by Naughty Dog, Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes back, and Crash Bandicoot 3: WARPED. Developer Vicarious Visions is the one tasked with making this project (they made the Game Boy Advance version of the Tony Hawk games) and they are tackling the Crash trilogy on the form of a remaster instead of a proper remake, according to Vicarious Visions director Dan Tanguay “It’s practically impossible to make a traditional remaster…The original code and assets are nearly unusable…But we don’t consider this a remake.”. Some of the elements Vicarious Visions has added into the original trilogy are a proper save system (which Crash 1 absurdly lacked) and inclusion of the time trials (or relics) in every game instead of just Crash 3.

On and all, it does seem like the developers are doing their best effort of recreating the games that everyone loved back in the 90s, but the art style has received mixed receptions from fans. I mostly like how the environments look but I do admit that Crash’s model isn’t the best. I’m also worried that Vicarious is going to miss the chance to fix some of the big issues that Crash 1 had, like the clunky controls and sub par level design of the temple levels. It begs for one final question, will it release on Xbox One?.
