Destiny: The Vault of Glass Raid will not feature matchmaking anytime soon, but the option is being considered

Bungie launched the Vault of Glass Raid on September 16th, a week after Destiny came out. Unlike traditional raids found in other MMOs, the Vault of Glass does not feature a matchmaking option, which means that you can’t party with strangers. In order for you to tackle the difficult challenges posed by the raid you must first overcome another challenge – finding five other people that are willing to join you. Moreover, these five people, as well as yourself, must be really skilled as the Vault of Glass will test your skills to their limits. This is one of the reasons why Destiny doesn’t feature a matchmaking option and we shouldn’t expect to see one anytime soon. However, even if a team made up of strangers is less likely to succeed in beating the challenge they should at least be allowed to try according to many Destiny players.

Developer Bungie is not against the idea, but doesn’t seem willing to implement the option either. “The Raid was designed for solid teams of killers who have made a commitment to solve a dense and explosive riddle,” Destiny Community Manager David “Deej” Dague said in a recent blog post. “Most of the raiding parties who have emerged victorious from the Vault of Glass have sworn that one weak link would have doomed their chain. There have been other stories, of course. We’ve heard tell of Guardians who met each other just outside the door that leads into that vault. Strange tales have reached our ears – tales of total strangers who have banded together to see the Raid all the way through to a triumphant finale.”

Dague says that Bungie is currently discussing the possibility of adding matchmaking support to Destiny’s raids. The company hasn’t made a final decision regarding the matter, but at least we know that the option in on the table. “The best I can do to answer your question is to let you know that you’ve been heard,” said Dague. “We’re having conversations about how Matchmaking might support the more challenging activities in Destiny. It’s a start. Keep sounding off about it, and maybe someday some matchmade Fireteam mates will hear you, too.”
