Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth gets a new trailer

2K Games released a cinematic trailer for the upcoming Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth turn based strategy game. The teaser explains the game’s story, setting up this new installment of the Civilization franchise.

Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth is the spiritual successor to the 1999 game Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri. It is built using the same engine that was used to develop Civilization V. Beyond Earth is the first Civilization title that takes place in the future. Specifically, as the cinematic explains, after a certain event referred to as “The Great Mistake”. The video explains us that, because of the previously mentioned event, humans now have to leave Earth. For this reason, several persons were selected, based on their skills, their strengths or simply by luck, to board a series of spaceships and head to deep space in order to find a new planet for people to populate. The trailer ends with the ships reaching their destination. You can watch the whole video below:

Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth will be released on October 24 on PC’s running Microsoft Windows, with Mac OS and Linux versions coming shortly after. The game is developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games. In Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth, you will have to create colonies on different planets. While in previous titles, you had to chose from historical empires, led by real life historical figures, in this game you have to choose which organization backed your expedition, what kind of ship you used to reach your destination and who or what you brought to the new world. According to the developer, Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth will not be a linear game, like the previous titles, since players’ choices have significant effects on the gameplay.

You can pre-purchase Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth from Steam, for $49.99. If you pre-order the game, you will also receive the Exoplanets Map Pack for free. The pack includes six custom maps, inspired by real exoplanets. According to the developers, these maps have great replayability value, since they contain scripts that randomly generate different geographic layouts every time you play. Steam also offers the Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth Classics Bundle, which, besides this game, includes Civlization III Complete, Civilization IV and Civilization V, all of these for only $69.99.

About Crisan Mircea

I'm a journalism graduate and an occasional gamer. As a kid I used to own a NES clone called "Terminator 2", which was hugely popular in my country. I like old school games and adventure games but I occasionaly play RPG's and Shooters as well, though I wouldn't call myself an expert at these kinds of games. When I'm not writing or playing games I prefer reading detective or fantasy novels.
