Destiny: Weekly Nightfall and Heroic only available to Dark Below owners

The highly anticipated Dark Below DLC is now live, but not all Destiny owners are happy to see it. Although the expansion adds plenty of new content to the game, it also brings some bad news for those who haven’t purchased it yet. That’s because the Weekly Heroic and Weekly Nightfall events are now reserved exclusively for DLC owners, at least for a while. If you’re familiar with the game, you already know that the said events are very important to character progression as various high level items can only be acquired by completing these activities.

Among the content included in The Dark Below DLC one can find a new Strike entitled The Will of Crota. In a less than surprising move, Bungie decided that this new Strike should serve as the Weekly Heroic and Weekly Nightfall events in order to celebrate its release. Naturally, this means that players who don’t own the DLC don’t have access to the new Strike or the weekly activities. Needless to say, more than a few Destiny players are unhappy with this decision and have asked Bungie to provide an addition vanilla Strike for those who haven’t purchased The Dark Below. Thus far Bungie hasn’t responded, so it seems very likely that those players will have to wait until the company announces the next weekly Destiny Strike.

Although we don’t know a whole lot of details about the next Strike, it seems like Bungie will pick a vanilla one yet again. According to community manager David “Deej” Dague, “featured heroic activities will be a blend of old and new from week to week.” Ultimately, this news wouldn’t be so terrible if not for the fact that now Cryptarch Engrams can no longer be acquired unless you’re willing to pay 20 bucks for the DLC. Similar to the weekly events, Engrams are crucial to acquiring end game loot in Destiny.
