Android 5.0.1 Lollipop rolling out to the Nvidia Shield Tablet

Android 5.0.1 Lollipop is the latest build from Google and it should fix various performance issues as well as bugs that came with the original 5.0 Lollipop version. Android 5.0.1 Lollipop is the same Material Design-touting OS that should impress any smartphone or tablet user, but the new version improves a lot of things. The Nvidia Shield Tablet is among the first few devices to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in a new software upgrade version 2.1.

The upgrade for the Nvidia Shield Tablet not only brings Android 5.0.1 Lollipop to the show, but the change log includes quite a few enhancements and tweaks. According to the announcement and change log posted by Nvidia, the upgrade contains minor bug fixes and updates courtesy of Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, as well as system performance enhancements, improvements in UI and app responsiveness, faster switching between apps, camera enhancements such as Live HD Effects for the Camera Awesome app, memory optimizations, localization improvements and OpenGL 4.5 support. Besides that, the upgrade brings back the Shield Power Control Menu, after users have asked the company to do so.

The Nvidia Shield Tablet is among the first non-Nexus devices to receive Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. This slate is also a crowd favorite, packing quite the punch for an affordable $300 price (base model with Wi-Fi). Even though the slate is generally intended for gaming, it turned out to be one of the best tablet releases of the year, outdoing the Nexus 9 in some respects. Even though the Nexus 9 is the latest and greatest from Google and HTC, the tablet is an underperformer, the Nvidia Tegra K1 chipset not being fully supported by Android 5.0 Lollipop. We hope that Android 5.0.1 Lollipop fixes the issues some have been having with the Nvidia Shield Tablet and other devices as well. I know the Nexus 7 can benefit from it quite a bit, after the original release of the OS rendered it practically unusable. Sound off in the comments below and let us know how your Shield Tablet is handling Android 5.0.1 Lollipop.

About Egon Kilin

My life-long dream has been to test out every gadget on the market! Considering the fact that I've rapidly destroyed almost every gadget I've had so far, I'm not inclined to owning something, so my ideal outcome would be to have a different gadget each month. I'm really into smartphones, wearables and tablets and I love Playstation and Xbox, I'm sure I'll beat you at your own game (after a month of training... or two)
