Dungeon Travelers 2 Coming This Summer

This summer, Atlus will release Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library & The Monster Seal for PlayStation Vita in North America, with NIS planning a European release planned for Fall 2015.

Atlus has released an announcement trailer for Dungeon Travelers 2 along with some information about the gameplay and characters. The game is a port of the 2013 PSP title Dungeon Travelers 2 Ōritsu Toshokan to Mamono no Fūin, which itself was a sequel to 2011’s To Heart 2: Dungeon Travelers. To make things even more complicated, that game was a spin-off of To Heart 2, a 2004 release for PS2, which was later released for PSP and PS3. Naturally, To Heart 2 also has several anime and manga series. Unlike the original To Heart 2, which was a visual novel, the Dungeon Travelers series focuses on hardcore first-person dungeon crawling.

In Dungeon Travelers 2, players will build a party of all-female adventurers who venture out to explore dungeons and seal away powerful monsters. Though it has a number of predecessors, the story doesn’t require players to have played or even heard about previous entries in the series. Players will take on the role of Fried, who has been sent by the Royal Library to stop an uprising of monsters and “mutant girls.” However, Fried doesn’t participate in battle. Instead, battles are fought by a combination of sixteen female adventurers that Fried encounters along his journey. Each girl is associated with one of five base classes, and can customized with over 30 sub-classes.

A quick look at the game’s art style brings to mind games like Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars, where female characters are over-sexualized, sometimes to the point of being ridiculous. This isn’t uncommon in Japanese RPGs, but it’s worth noting for players unfamiliar or uncomfortable with the art style.

The game was originally developed by Sting Entertainment and published by Aquaplus, but Atlus has taken over for the game’s rerelease. The full original Japanese audio track will be included, with English subtitles localized by the team at Atlus.

This summer, Dungeon Travelers 2 will bring even more dungeon crawling, scantily-clad anime girls, and turn-based combat to the PlayStation Vita in both digital and physical formats. If you’re a To Heart 2 fan or just a fan of first-person dungeon crawling, this might be something to look forward to. Will you be picking Dungeon Travelers 2 when it launches this summer? Let us know in the comments, and keep checking back with LoadTheGame for the newest game announcements.
