Geeksphone Revolution available in Europe

Geeksphone, the Spain-based phone manufacturer, announced that Revolution, a smartphone capable of running Android as well as the Firefox OS, is now officially available in Europe. Geeksphone’s MultiOS technology allows users to switch between Android and Boot2Gecko by Mozilla, or any other community-supported OS.

The Firefox OS is Mozilla’s attempt to bring a web-first focus to smartphones. Geeksphone has been an early Firefox OS hardware supporter, and now it has put the Revolution up for sale, a complete device, with the ability to dual-boot to both Android and Firefox OS.

Firefox OS is still an outlier when it comes to the mobile platform landscape, there’s very little in terms of pressing reasons to have it as an option. Those who sympathize with Mozilla’s approach to software, open source and the web, will probably find plenty to love about Firefox OS on a device with decent mid-range specs .

The Revolution phone features a 4.7-inch qHD (540×960 pixel) IPS display. The smartphone is powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor alongside 1GB of RAM. It sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with a LED flash, while there is also a 2-megapixel front-facing camera onboard. It comes with 4GB of inbuilt storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB with the help of a microSD card. It packs a 2000mAh battery. The Revolution phone supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, Micro-USB and 3G connectivity.

The Geeksphone Revolution went on sale a couple of weeks ago and it’s now expanding its availability throughout Europe, through multiple Amazon portals –Spain, France, Germany, the UK and in a few days Italy too. There’s a promotion running until April 15 that discounts the phone 30% to €240, so if you are looking for something different than Apple, HTC, Samsung or other main competitors, perhaps Geeksphone will draw your attention.
