A successor to the Moto X seems to be in the works

While the Moto X hasn’t gained as much popularity as some of the other handsets, the device did receive some praise for some of its features, especially its durable design. Although the Moto X is not considered to be on par with smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 or the HTC One M8, the device is still pretty decent and worth giving a chance, many consumers believe.

Recent leaks suggest that Motorola is now working on a successor to the Moto X which will apparently be named Moto X+1, if sources are correct. A lot of the rumors regarding the new device revolve around its customization options, it is believed that the Moto X+1 might feature wood and leather backs that will come in several different colors. This is something Moto X uses as well, you can custom order your device with the help of the Moto Maker.

The online service allows you to choose between several colors or 4 real wood options for the back of your phone. Moto Maker also offers the possibility of engraving custom messages on the rear cover, among other things. If the rumors turn out to be true, Motorola looks to add leather as well to the list of options.

Another rumor worth mentioning claims that the specs for the Moto X+1 might have already surfaced. Last year a full list of specifications leaked for a model listed as XT912A from Motorola, this was prior to the Moto X’s release. Recently, XT912A appeared again with updated specs, this has lead some to believe that they might be for the Moto X+1.

According to the new list, the Moto X+1 will feature a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution display, 2 GB RAM and 12MP rear camera. The device will also sport a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and up to 24 GB of storage memory. These specs are a pretty big improvement over the Moto X and might allow the new device to compete with some of the high-end flagship smartphones currently available on the market.

The Moto X was announced at the beginning of August last year so we may have to wait a bit until Motorola announces something about the Moto X+1 this year. Until then please take these rumors with a grain of salt, but if they turn out to be true we might be looking at something special here.
