GTA 5’s PC and next-gen success is inevitable says publisher Take-Two Interactive

GTA 5 is one of the most successful titles of all time but its publisher believes that it will get even bigger. Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick says that the game’s success on PC, PS4, and Xbox One is “inevitable”. Zelnick discussed about the highly anticipated title at Gamescom and he made quite a number of interesting statements. As many of you probably know, GTA 5 sold over 34 million copies to date, and those were just on the Xbox 360 and PS3. However, as Take-Two’s CEO himself states: “the truth is not everyone bought it.”

“One way to look at it is that 34m copies have been sold, but there’s 7bn people on Earth. So we have over 6.9bn people left to address.” Zelnick certainly has a very interesting way of looking at things, we’ll give him that. Apparently he doesn’t take into consideration the fact that a pretty large part of the human population barely has enough to eat, let alone buy a next-gen console and a copy of GTA 5 to go with it. Exaggerations aside, he does make some more down to earth statements such as “How can you buy a next-gen console and not want to play GTA on it?” That’s a very solid argument if I ever heard one, especially considering that GTA 5’s PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions are said to feature a number of improvements and new features.

We can clearly see that Zelnick is very enthusiastic about the whole thing, but apparently he isn’t the only one. According to him, developer Rockstar is just as excited and will presumably blow us away with the improved versions of the game. “In the case of GTA 5, nothing but the very best will satisfy Rockstar,” Zelnick says. “They want to blow customers away. Whatever the expectation is, they want to exceed it. When you see GTA 5 on next-gen, I want you to tell me whether it is or isn’t better that your expectation.” He concludes by saying that “I can guarantee it will be better”. This level of confidence is definitely praise worthy, but the CEO managed to raise the bar pretty high in terms of our expectations regarding the game. Let’s hope it will not disappoint.

Unfortunately Zelnick didn’t mention anything about a release date for GTA 5 PC, PS4, Xbox One. We know the game will arrive sometime this Fall, but when exactly? We’ll let you know the moment we find out so stay tuned.
