Mortal Kombat X Release Date Announced

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have announced today that Mortal Kombat X, developed by NetherRealm Studios, will be released worldwide on April 14, 2015. It was also stated that the legendary Goro, the four armed, half-human, half-dragon Shokan-warrior will be available as a playable combatant for people who have pre-ordered the game.

Mortal Kombat X is NetherRealm Studios’ next installment and the tenth main title in the critically-acclaimed Mortal Kombat series. The game features more intense gameplay, more brutal scenes, more fatalities. Gameplay mechanics featured in the new Mortal Kombat X include:

  • The Energy Meter – as in previous Mortal Kombat games, allows players to perform techniques such as X-Ray moves, with some refinements made to the system;
  • Interactive Environment – players can now interact with the background of the scene, using objects and walls to bounce off them and reposition themselves or use parts of the environment as destructive means;
  • Character Variations – each character now has three different variations that players can choose from the selection menu. Each variation will modify the fighting style of the character, offering a unique set of attacks, special moves and weaponry exclusive to that variant. For example Raiden may choose between Thunder God (additional hits to some normal attack and Enhanced Lighting), Displacer (adds teleport and spark port) or Storm Lord (adds lightning traps). The visual appearance will also change according to the variation selected;
  • Online experience – there are plans for a “new fully-connected experience that launches players into a persistent online game where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy”.

NetherRealm Studios promised that Mortal Kombat X will feature the most brutal Fatality finishing moves in the series. For those of you who have lost track or haven’t played the series in a long time, the translation is simple: it’s going to be brutal. Mortal Kombat X will be available for Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
