Sonxy Xperia Z3 vs Moto X 2014 – which one fits you best

Two of the hottest Android phones to hit the shelves in October are the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Motorola Moto X 2nd generation. The new Motorola flagship goes simply by Moto X. It’s often called Moto X 2nd generation or Moto X 2014. If you plan on buying the new Moto X and you want to be sure you’re getting the newer version there’s one easy way to tell. The old Moto X has a Dual Core processor whereas the new one features a Quad Core. Always check the specifications from your retailer. This is the easiest way to tell them apart. Shopping around for the Xperia Z3 could also lead to confusion as the Z3 Compact features the same specs, but the difference is the size. There’s the normal version which has the 5.2 inch screen and the Compact with the 4.6 inches.

In terms of performance there’s isn’t a big difference between the two. They share the same chipset and have plenty of RAM memory, although the Z3 has 1GB more (3 vs 2GB on the Moto X). You will be able to play all the latest games and many more that will come out in the future. With an Antutu Benchmark score of around 40.000, both are stellar performers. Cameras are both very good for a phone, but the Sony has the edge with 20 megpaixels and a bigger sensor. These features will make it perform better in low light and give you a clearer image. The screen are both competent, but Sony’s added Triluminous display give it much better performance in brightness, making it more suitable for outdoor use. Speaking of outdoors, both these phones inherit a resistance to water. The Moto X 2014 is coated with a water repellent, but it’s got nothing on the Sony. The Xperia Z3 is waterproof, with an IP68 certificate. It can be submerged to 1m underwater up to 30 minutes. The trend of water protection trough smartphones seems to be growing. The Samsung Galaxy S5 also provides water resistance. This is one leap that Apple didn’t take yet.

As you would expect the devices’ size is similar. The Moto X is 5.54 tall, 2.85 wide and 0.39 thick. The Sony Xperia Z3 is longer by 0.2 inches but it’s also 25% thinner. That seems like a lot, but keep in mind that the Xperia Z models have never been famous for ergonomics. The Moto X has a curved back that fits into your hand very well. You’ll enjoy texting, reading and using the Moto much more after longer periods. One department where the Xperia Z3 leads is the battery life. It has a 3100 mAh battery. This is enormous compared to older phones or to the Moto’s 2300 mAh, which will still last you a full day of use. You might be able to use the Z3 for two days without charging with standard usage. It will hold up to 9.5 hours of continuous use.

The ergonomics isn’t the only design feature you have to consider. The Xperia comes in Black, White, Copper and a faded Silver Green. Those are all your options. The Moto X takes a page from car manufacturers giving you options for textures, trim colours, front colors, you can even engrave it and have a custom welcome message. You can even choose from 4 types of wood finish and 4 leather types. This will go a long way with fashion conscious users. The breakdown of Sony Xperia Z3 vs Moto X 2014 comes down to your needs. If you want a better tool, the Z3 is your winner because of longer lasting battery and a better camera. If you like your phone more as a smart accessory, the Moto X fills all your design needs.
