Destiny: The Taken King Red Bull Promotion

Destiny and Red Bull partner up to bring you a new quest

No, your eyes do not deceive you, there truly is a Red Bull promotion for Destiny’s The Taken King expansion pack when it comes out in September. According to an Activision press release and a promotional page at quest.redbull.com, specially marked cans of Destiny Edition Red Bull, sold exclusively at 7-11 in July, will have an access code. Redeeming the code will grant you a one time XP boost item dubbed Focused Light, which increases all XP gained by 50% for 30 minutes, and an exclusive quest. The quest is described as such; “This epic, new quest is a never-before-seen, multi-stage mission in The Taken King that will test the speed and strategic abilities of Destiny players in new ways.”

The Red Bull cans themselves will also feature a Red Bull athlete, Michael “Flamesword” Chaves, according to the Activision press release, who is a member of the OpTic Gaming eSports organization. As quoted in the press release, Chaves said, “I love that Red Bull and Destiny have a shared sense of adventure, camaraderie, and pushing boundaries that both brands embody. As a former Coach of OpTic Gaming and Team Captain of my current squad, I’m always looking to help others be at their best. I am very much looking forward to coaching the Destiny community through the quest and help everyone Become Legend!” Interestingly enough, it will also be the first time that an eSports persona has been featured on a Red Bull can.

For those who dont want to buy Red Bull, the quest is exclusive until January 1st, 2016. International players of Destiny are (mercifully) exempt from this promotion, as it is limited to the United States and Canada, which means that they will have to wait until 2016 until they can get the exclusive quest. As for whether or not this announcement is worthy of mockery for being an amalgamation of various gaming stereotypes, or if it couldnt possibly come at a worse time when the quote “If I fired up a video right now and showed you the emotes you would throw money at the screen” is still fresh in everyone’s minds, is up to you to decide.
