5.Avira Free Antivirus

The free version of Avira misses some of the components featured in the full suite, but if you’re only interested in standard protection then it’s worth taking a look. Avira Free Antivirus comes with real-time protection, firewall and web protection, on the other hand there is no tech support for this version so you’re pretty much on your own if you run into problems with it. Browser Safety and Online Essentials can also be downloaded for free.

4.avast! Free Antivirus 2014

Avast has been around for more than 25 years now, and is considered one of the most trusted antivirus software out there. The 2014 edition features a streamlined interface with many new features, as well as the same efficient anti-malware protection we’ve come to expect. There is a problem however, avast! has been known for blocking or deleting false positives. These can sometimes come in the form of cracks, keygens and the like, so take care when downloading files of those types while the antivirus is enabled.

3.AVG AntiVirus FREE 2014

Although the version in question is completely free, you will be nagged by AVG to try out their free 30-day trial of the full product. It can get a bit annoying but if that kind of thing doesn’t bother you, it’s worth having a look at it because it’s very good at what it does. AVG AntiVirus FREE 2014 features Link Protection for Facebook and Twitter, a secure File Shredder and excellent malware removal and protection tools. Best used on clean systems as it has some problems with already infected ones.

1.Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Quite possibly the best malware removal tool out there, this little piece of software saved many users when other antivirus programs failed. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware version 2.0 comes with improved interface and functionality but still lacks real-time protection against attacks, that might be it’s only noticeable drawback. Real-time protection is featured in the Premium version though, but even without it Malwarebytes Anti-Malware swiftly takes care of any malicious software it may encounter, just give it try and thank me later.
