BlackBerry is working on a new 4.5-inch display smartphone

The BlackBerry developer blog contains a host of useful information for those interested in the BlackBerry OS, or those who want to take a look at the software development kit. But assuming you don’t, you can find some other things of interest there if you look close enough.

While browsing the website, you’re likely to notice a few lines of text that hint at a new smartphone. The device will come with a 4.5-inch display based on the pixel density that was revealed on the blog. “Also, when you fire up the 10.3 beta simulator, you’ll notice another square screen. This is for a new device with a 1440×1440 resolution and pixel density of 453 DPI.” The post in question was written by BlackBerry’s Tim Neil, director of application platform and tools product management.

Assuming that people would naturally want to find out more about the smartphone, Neil followed by stating that the company is not yet ready to unveil other details. “I know, I know…you want more details on that new device, but we’re not quite ready to give them yet, so hold tight and watch the blog for more information!”. This device is probably the very same one that was described in a leak which surfaced on CrackBerry.

The website deals with all things related to BlackBerry and has shared some info about the upcoming smartphone. The new handset currently goes by the name of Windermere and sports a 4.5-inch Full HD display. Windermere also features a 1440 x 1440 resolution and 453 pixel density, just like the device Neil was talking about. Other specs include a 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilization and 3450 mAh battery.

Windermere is rumored to be thinner than the BlackBerry Z30, which is 9.4 mm thick. Most sources claim the upcoming device will also feature the infamous physical QWERTY keyboard. Not much else is known at this time but we’ll be sure to keep you up to date as soon as we hear something so stay tuned.
