Metro Redux release date announced

Deep Silver and 4A Games announced today that Metro Redux, the collection of the remastered versions of the survival horror games Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, will be released on August 26th for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC, with a Europe release on August 29th.

The Metro Redux package will be priced at $50, and feature “superior AI, controls, animation, weapon handling and many more. And both campaigns benefit from all-new melee animations, the ability to check your watch and ammo supplies on the fly, and new full-body player animations.” Graphics have also been vastly improved, with “completely re-mastered visuals: advanced lighting, dynamic weather, more detailed characters with improved animation, more dynamic destruction and improved smoke, fire and particle effects.” All DLC and expansion packs are included as well, totaling 10 hours of content, and will be sold separately digitally, with the option to purchase the bundle in retail. The games also will include two unique “Play Styles”, the survival horror oriented “Survival” style, with less resources, slower reload speeds, and deadlier AI, and the more gun-blazing, action-oriented “Spartan” style, which gives players more resources and more powerful combat options.

Metro 2033 is based on the Dmitry Glukhovsky 2005 novel of the same name, with a dark universe set in post-apocalyptic Moscow, although the game’s narrative does not follow the book storyline. The game was released in 2010 to mixed reviews, being praised for the atmosphere and story, but criticized for bugs and graphics issues. The sequel, Metro: Last Light, received critical acclaim, and was nominated for several awards, being praised for retaining the gloomy environment and tone while tightening up the graphics and shooting mechanics. The first game was originally published by THQ, and the sequel to follow, but the rights were sold to Dead Island publisher Deep Silver when the company shut down last January.

Anyone who missed these games now has a date to save this summer, as you can get two excellent shooters, polished and improved for next-gen, for the price of one with the Metro Redux bundle.
