Rockstar Games says Lindsay Lohan’s lawsuit is meant for publicity purposes

“Grand Theft Auto V” developer Rockstar Games replies to Lindsay Lohan’s lawsuit. The company states that the actress is only doing this for publicity purposes and demands her to pay their legal fees.

For those who don’t know, Linsday Lohan filed a lawsuit against Rockstar Games, stating that “Grand Theft Auto V” uses her image without permission through the character Lacey Jonas. Lohan claims that, for this character, Rockstar Games used her voice and image, including her hats, hair style, sunglasses and clothing line products. During the game, Lacey Jonas is found hiding from the paparazzi. She describes herself as the voice of a generation. While Lohan wants the company to pay her damages for using her likeness, the company states that the only similarity between their character and the actress is that they are both young blond women. Furthermore, the developer sees the lawsuit as frivolous, with the actress trying to gain popularity through their game.

GTA V publisher Take Two Interactive sold over 33 million copies of the game by May this year, generating around $2 billion in retail sales. The game’s release on next-gen platforms this fall will most likely boost these figures. In other words, at the time the lawsuit was filled, GTA V was, and remains a very popular game.

Linsday Lohan rose to popularity following her role in “The Parent Trap”, and her career kept rising as she starred in films such as “Freaky Friday”, “Mean Girls”, “Herbie Fully Loaded” and others. Lohan’s career went downhill following several legal issues over the past few years. The actress is known for her repeated drugs and alcohol problems, which had cost her a lot career-wise.

Rockstar Games’ “Grand Theft Auto V” was released in September 2013 for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 and is slated for a next-gen release, on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC in October 2014.

About Crisan Mircea

I'm a journalism graduate and an occasional gamer. As a kid I used to own a NES clone called "Terminator 2", which was hugely popular in my country. I like old school games and adventure games but I occasionaly play RPG's and Shooters as well, though I wouldn't call myself an expert at these kinds of games. When I'm not writing or playing games I prefer reading detective or fantasy novels.
