Australian indie developer announces Arena FPS Reflex

Australian indie developer Turbo Pixel has started a Kickstarter that aims to raise funds for developing a competitive arena shooter similar to the well known Quake games. Their project is named Reflex and in order to be able to make it, they need to get the equivalent to $320.000 in Australian dollars.

According to the developer, Reflex is going to be a competitive arena FPS that combines modern tech with the speed, precision and freedom of a 90’s shooter. The complex maps promise intense action, with portals lying around to facilitate quick movement and precise jumping. Reflex will have at least 10 different game modes, including deathmatch, team and capture the flag. Turbo Pixel stated that the game is going to be hard to master. Players will enjoy features such as matchmaking, leaderboards and ladders for tracking competitive play. Additionally, they will be able to use an in-game multiplayer map editor and a replay editor. The developer states that they are using a custom built engine and are targeting 120 FPS, adding that they don’t cap framerates. They also aim for 100hz input sampling, for perfect control. If you want to watch a gameplay video and see what the game looks like, check out the project’s Kickstarter page.

Turbo Pixel states that, for Reflex, players will be able to run their own servers with their own settings. In addition to playing with friends, you will be able to play with bots. In this game, bots are advanced A.I, built using strategies seen at real players. If you get killed during a match and have to wait for it to end, you have several spectator features available: multiview, casting overlays, on-screen live statistics and even spectator vs spectator interaction. Features such as co-op are also in the developers’ plans, but they are on the list only as stretch goals.

In addition to the Kickstarter campaign, Turbo Pixel also submitted their game for Steam Greenlight. The Australian developer already has a certain community, but, according to them, they are aiming to expand it in order for their project to work. An exact release date for Reflex wasn’t given yet, but Turbo Pixel intends to release it early next year.

About Crisan Mircea

I'm a journalism graduate and an occasional gamer. As a kid I used to own a NES clone called "Terminator 2", which was hugely popular in my country. I like old school games and adventure games but I occasionaly play RPG's and Shooters as well, though I wouldn't call myself an expert at these kinds of games. When I'm not writing or playing games I prefer reading detective or fantasy novels.
