Roomi app launched today

If you’re looking to get a place in New York and also need a roommate to help pay the bills, then Roomi is the app for you. Launched on Tuesday, June 9th, Roomi not only lists apartments in the area you are looking towards, but also connects you to other people searching for a similar place. Unlike college, however, you won’t just be thrown in a place with someone you’ve never spoken to in your life.

Roomi takes the dating site approach to helping you find the best roommate. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you will be asked a series of questions relating to living compatibility. These include if you are a smoker or not, if you have pet allergies, and even whether you are day person or a night person. Of course like all people-matching apps, you’ll need to take some pictures as well. Users will be hooked up with those who like the same apartments listed and have the best compatability. After that they are free to chat and get to know one another.

The main selling point of Roomi is connecting people to live together, but it also does a good job of finding the place to live in the first place. Those who like one of the apartments listed will be able to contact the owners for questions and set up times to get a closer look. There are approximately 3,000 apartments listed in the New York area so far, but hopefully with success down the road, that number will greatly increase.

Roomi is available to download for free on all iOS devices. There are future plans to get the app on to Android devices as well.
